Key Responsibilities:

  • 1. Boilermaker
  • Assemble, install, and repair boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and closed vats.
  • Read blueprints and technical drawings to determine layouts and assembly sequences.
  • Use welding, bolting, and riveting techniques to join and fabricate components.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure the safety and functionality of boiler systems.
  • Test systems for leaks and efficiency.
  • 2. Grouping Fitters
  • Lay out, assemble, and install piping systems for steam, gas, and other boiler-related systems.
  • Interpret pipe layout plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Fit and fabricate piping materials using hand and power tools.
  • Align pipes and secure fittings through welding or other appropriate methods.
  • Perform pressure tests to ensure system integrity.
  • 3. Riggers
  • Use hoists, cranes, and other lifting equipment to position heavy boiler components.
  • Inspect rigging equipment to ensure safety and proper operation.
  • Collaborate with the ironworking and boilermaker teams to lift and install large parts in confined spaces.
  • Signal crane operators and guide loads during movement.
  • Maintain safe rigging practices in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • 4. Ironworkers
  • Erect, install, and repair structural steel frameworks used in boilers, vats, and large industrial vessels.
  • Bolt and weld structural elements together to form the framework for boilers and tanks.
  • Interpret blueprints and work closely with rigging teams to ensure the proper installation of iron components.
  • Perform finishing tasks such as cutting, grinding, and painting steel structures to protect against corrosion.
  • Ensure all ironwork is completed to code and meets safety standards.
  • 5. Journeyman-Level Expertise
  • Apply expert-level knowledge in the installation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, tanks, and vessels.
  • Work independently or lead a team in large-scale boilermaking projects.
  • Use precision tools and measuring instruments to align and fit large components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex systems, ensuring they meet industry standards for safety and performance.
  • Mentor apprentices and less experienced team members


Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.


Experience:

  • Proven experience in boilermaking, fitting, rigging, ironwork, or related journeyman-level skills.
  • Journeyman certification or equivalent trade experience is required.
  • Boilermaker certification or trade school diploma is a plus
  • Specialized certifications in welding, rigging, or fitting (AWS, NCCCO, etc.) is a plus


Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and under various environmental conditions.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy objects, perform manual labor, and work long hours when required.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at various heights.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle challenging tasks under pressure.
  • Must have reliable transportation.


Work Location and Travel:

  • The position is based on projects across the United States, with frequent travel required, often on short notice.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work in different locations as project demands.


Work Environment:

  • Work is typically performed in industrial settings, often involving exposure to high temperatures, noise, and hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • The role requires working in confined spaces, at heights, and in various body positions.
  • Must always adhere to safety protocols to minimize risks to oneself and others while performing welding tasks.

Physical Requirements:

Talk/Hear: Required to communicate effectively with team members, receive instructions, and coordinate tasks to ensure safety and accuracy during welding operations.

Stand/Sit: Frequently used to perform welding tasks, operate equipment, and manipulate materials accurately in various positions and locations on the job site.

Walk: Needed to move between workstations, gather materials, inspect job sites, and coordinate with team members during welding and fabrication tasks.

Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Required to operate welding equipment, position materials, and perform precise adjustments during welding and fabrication tasks.

Climb: Occasionally needed to access elevated work areas, perform welding tasks on high structures or equipment, and reach materials or tools stored at higher levels.

Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: Frequently used to access and work in confined or low-clearance areas, position materials, and perform welding tasks in tight or awkward spaces.

See: Required to inspect weld quality, read blueprints and welding specifications, align materials accurately, and ensure precise execution of welding tasks.

Carry, weight, Lift: Frequently needed to handle and position heavy materials, equipment, and components necessary for welding and fabrication tasks.

Exposure to work: Exposed to work environments with high temperatures, noise, and hazardous materials, requiring adherence to safety protocols to manage risks associated with welding operations and industrial settings.
